The AIS school year runs from April through to March, with a 1-month summer vacation in August and a 2-week winter vacation in December and January. The school year is divided into 3 terms. The first term runs from April to July, the second term runs from September to December, and the third term runs from January to March. Recognizing that this calendar may not coincide with other countries, the school is flexible in meeting the individual needs of its international students.
The AIS kindergarten runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00 - 15:00 with the option of extending to 17:00. The AIS elementary school runs Monday through Friday, from 8:30 - 15:30, with optional after-school activities running until 17:00.

The teacher-student ratio at AIS is around 10 to 1 in the kindergarten and 10 to 1 in the elementary school. In 2009, the AIS class capacities are as follows:
| Class | Jellyfish (2 year olds) |
Starfish (3 year olds) |
Dolphin (4 year olds) |
Orca (5 year olds) |
Dolphin (6 year olds) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 20 | 20 | 20 | 20 | ー |
| Class | Grade 1 | Grade 2 | Grade 3 | Grade 4 | Grade 5 | Grade 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | ー |

In addition to the kindergarten and elementary school, AIS also offers a once-a-week English program for students attending regular Japanese schools. The classes, which range in age from 3-years-old up to junior high school are all taught by AIS teachers. Unlike other English schools, which cater to a wide range of students, AIS focuses only on children. With the entire AIS facility built for children, and the AIS staff specifically trained to teach children, it is perhaps no wonder that the AIS Children’s English program has been full to capacity for the past 10 years.
